Nomex Racing Gloves

Fire resistant racing gloves are typically constructed from Du Pont Nomex fabric. Race gloves serve a few purposes, fire/heat protection, steering wheel/shifter grip and blister prevention.
Most auto racing gloves will be tested, approved and tagged by either the SFI Foundation or the FIA. SFI and FIA will rate gloves based upon the level of protection. SFI 3.2A/1 or SFI-1 gloves have a single layer of fire resistant material. SFI 3.2A/5 or SFI-5 have 2 or 3 layers of material and can provide up to 3 times the protection when tested against single layer gloves. SFI 15 or 20 racing gloves are very thick with multiple layers of material and used by Nitro Funny Car and Top Fuel Dragster drivers. Some racing gloves will feature both SFI and FIA approval. Reverse stitched racing gloves or gloves with the stitching on the outside of the garment are not accepted by the SFI Foundation, but can be approved by FIA testing. Double layer FIA approved gloves are tagged as FIA 8856-2000.
